Dr. Ashish Deshpande - Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist
  Born and brought up in Mumbai Dr. Ashish Deshpande was a student of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya and Parle College of Science and Arts. He did his graduation and post graduation in Psychological Medicine from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College, Parel, Mumbai. He has been practicing psychiatry in Mumbai since 1996.

  Work Profile
  Apart from managing regular out patient department and admissions Dr. Deshpande founded the Child Guidance Centre at Keshav Gore Smarak Trust, Goregaon. The centre now has a team of psychologists, remedial teacher, volunteers and trainee MA interns from Department of Psychology, SNDT Women’s University, Wadala, Mumbai; Indira Gandhi National Open University, Mumbai and Anna Malai University, Tamil Nadu. The Centre offers its services to Punarvas Education Society’s School for Special Children, and a host of aided, unaided and municipal schools. Also conducts training workshops for teachers, parents and counselors who intend to pursue counseling in schools. The Centre under the guidance of Dr. Deshpande has developed a curriculum for teaching students “How to behave”. MOUJ as it is called is a curricularized age appropriate activity based program for middle school with RET based extensions for 8th and 9th standard.

After training in “Centre of Excellence in Deaddiction at KEM hospital”, Dr. Deshpande initiated community programs for alcohol and drug rehabilitation. Working closely with non governmental organizations (NGOs), self help groups he tried to de-stigmatize chemical dependency and help the suffering. His association with many rehabilitation centres carried the message of hope and medical insights far and wide. He was appointed as the Class A trustee of the General Service Board of Alcoholics Anonymous India and has served as the longest serving class A trustee till now. He was invited for his expertise in the field all over India during his tenure and has addressed august audience in Judiciary, Military, Police, Media, Academicians as well as common men and women all over India. He now stands rotated since 2012 but still continues to work for alcoholics and drug addicts.

Noticing the rapid rise of the aged in the communities, Dr. Deshpande has focused on betterment of services for the aged. Associated in an advisory capacity with ‘Swaadhar”, a government aided, family counseling centre in Goregaon; he is also an advisor to “Dilaasa” a new family counseling and support centre in Vile Parle, Mumbai. He is closely associated with Regular and Intermediate Skilled Nursing Home, “Snehamandir”, Phonda, Goa for elderly. He is involved in the ongoing training of staff working at the Old Age Home. State of Goa has accepted the Recommendations for Welfare of Senior Citizens written by Dr, Deshpande for Goa Hindu Association following recommendation by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar.

His good teaching skills, oratory skills and liking for subject finds him invited at various corporate training programs. Larson and Toubro being one of them. Mumbai police, Association of headmasters of Mumbai schools, college teachers, parent teachers associations, cultural organizations in and around Mumbai regularly arrange his interactions. He has been involved in mental health awareness programs at various levels. With more than 50 news paper opeds, more than 100 TV appearances in ‘phone-in-programs’, many news discussions he has been a known face in Maharashtra.

With him being selected in Satyameva Jayate, An Aamir Khan Production show, in the episode on Alcoholism has widened his familiarity with people all over India.
